How to clean the cameras on your Volkswagen ID.4
Your ID.4 has a windshield camera for driver assistance, a rear view camera by the VW badge and, depending on trim, Area View cameras around the car for 360° visibility. Dirt on any of these lenses directly affects what the camera sees.
Where are the cameras on the Volkswagen ID.4?
- Windscreen, outside in front of the camera
- Grille or front bumper optional
- Under the door mirrors optional
- Reversing camera
Camera equipment varies by trim and model year. Check your owner's manual.
Where dirt builds up
Clean cameras matter for assistance systems that rely on the windshield camera, and for the rear view camera image plus Area View during parking, if fitted.
How to clean the cameras on your ID.4
- 1
Tear open
Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.
- 2
Wipe the lens
A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.
- 3
Bin it
Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.
Volkswagen ID.4 questions
Does every ID.4 have a 360° camera system?
No, Area View with the cameras around the car depends on trim level. Check whether your ID.4 has this option.
Where is the rear view camera on the ID.4?
It sits on the tailgate, below the VW badge. Rain and road spray build up there quickly.
Can a wipe fix a blurry camera image?
Only if dirt on the lens is the cause. It won't fix haze on the inside of the windshield or a software fault.
