How to clean the cameras on your Volkswagen ID.3
Your Volkswagen ID.3 has a camera behind the windscreen for driver assistance and a rear-view camera near the VW badge. Depending on trim, it may also have Area View cameras around the car for a 360-degree image. Dirt on any lens makes the image less clear, right when you need it most.
Where are the cameras on the Volkswagen ID.3?
- Windscreen, outside in front of the camera
- Grille or front bumper optional
- Under the door mirrors optional
- Reversing camera
Camera equipment varies by trim and model year. Check your owner's manual.
Where dirt builds up
The rear-view camera helps with parking and seeing behind the car. Area View, if your trim has it, gives a surround view for tight spots and slow manoeuvres. A dirty lens makes these systems less reliable.
How to clean the cameras on your ID.3
- 1
Tear open
Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.
- 2
Wipe the lens
A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.
- 3
Bin it
Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.
Volkswagen ID.3 questions
Does every ID.3 have a 360-degree camera?
No, Area View is not available as standard equipment across all trims. You'll want to check which trim your vehicle is equipped to determine whether or not you have Area View.
Why does my rear camera image blur after rain?
The lens near the VW badge sits low and picks up a lot of spray and dirt. A clean lens gives a sharp image again.
Can a wipe fix a blurry screen?
A single swipe of a cloth will remove dirt from the exterior of the camera(s), but cannot clean the interior surfaces of the windshields or resolve any problems caused by a software failure.
