How to clean the cameras on your Volkswagen Golf
Your Volkswagen Golf 8 has a camera behind the windscreen for driver assistance, plus, depending on trim, a rear view camera and 360-degree Area View. Dirt on these lenses can distort images or knock out warnings. Cleaning them regularly keeps the view sharp.
Where are the cameras on the Volkswagen Golf?

Where dirt builds up
On the hatchback, the camera hides behind the VW badge and only swings out when reversing, so it stays relatively clean. On the Variant, the camera sits fixed below the badge with no cover, so it picks up more road spray and grime.
Front Assist relies on the windscreen camera and comes standard on every trim. The rear view camera and Area View help with parking, but only appear from Life Edition up or with an added package, so check your trim.

Tear open
Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.

Wipe the lens
A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.

Bin it
Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.

Does every Golf have a rear view camera?
No, it depends on trim. On the hatchback it only starts from Life Edition, and on the Variant it's also from Life Edition up, not on the base model.
Why does the Variant's camera get dirty faster than the hatchback's?
The hatchback camera retracts behind the VW badge and stays shielded. The Variant has a fixed camera with no cover, so it gets more spray and road grime.
Will a wipe fix a blurry camera image?
A wipe cleans the outside of the lens. It won't fix haze on the inside of the windscreen or a software fault.
