How to clean the cameras on your Hyundai Ioniq 6

Your Hyundai Ioniq 6 has a camera behind the rearview mirror for forward collision warning and lane keeping, plus a rear camera on the boot lid. Depending on trim, it can also have cameras in the front bumper and under the door mirrors, sometimes with digital side mirrors too. All these lenses sit outside and pick up dirt, so clean cameras help the systems see properly.

Where are the cameras on the Hyundai Ioniq 6?

  1. Windscreen, outside in front of the camera
  2. Grille or front bumper optional
  3. Under the door mirrors optional
  4. Digital door mirror cameras optional
  5. Reversing camera

Camera equipment varies by trim and model year. Check your owner's manual.

Where dirt builds up

The rear-view camera is mounted to the rear of the sedan and does not benefit from a rear-windshield wiper, thus allowing road-spray and dirt to accumulate rapidly. The lenses of the digital side mirrors may become dirty or develop frost/ice – the owner’s manual indicates this should be cleaned/wiped off or use the vehicle’s demister/heated rear windows.

Forward collision warning and lane keeping rely on the windscreen camera, and a dirty lens can trigger a 'camera obscured' message that limits those systems. Surround view, blind-spot monitoring and the remote parking assist depend on the exterior cameras.

How to clean the cameras on your Ioniq 6

  1. 1

    Tear open

Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.

  2. 2

    Wipe the lens

A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.

  3. 3

    Bin it

Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.

Hyundai Ioniq 6 questions

Does the Ioniq 6 have a rear camera you can clean yourself?

Yes, that is a fixed unit as standard to the rear of the boot lid and does not have an intermittent wipe. When you apply a wipe to the lens the image comes back into focus.

What if the car warns that the lane keeping camera is blocked?

The camera is located behind the windscreen and supplies information for the collision warning and lane departure systems. The dirty lens may activate the warning light; therefore, clean the lens before continuing with your inspection.

Does every Ioniq 6 have side cameras for surround view?

No, that will depend on the trim level. Surround view cameras, blind spot monitoring and digital wing mirrors are available as options in conjunction with this vehicle model.
