How to clean the cameras on your BYD Seal
Your BYD Seal has a camera on the windscreen for ADAS and a camera at the rear. It also has a Panoramic View system with cameras for 360° view. Dirt on these lenses affects the image and the systems relying on it.
Where are the cameras on the BYD Seal?
- Windscreen, outside in front of the camera
- Grille or front bumper
- Under the door mirrors
- Reversing camera
Camera equipment varies by trim and model year. Check your owner's manual.
Where dirt builds up
The rear camera at the licence plate picks up a lot of road spray and grime. The car has no built-in camera cleaning. The manual warns against spraying the cameras directly with a high-pressure washer.
Functions like automatic emergency braking and lane keeping use the windscreen camera together with radar. The manual states these functions are limited when the lens is blocked by ice, water, frost or mud.
How to clean the cameras on your Seal
- 1
Tear open
Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.
- 2
Wipe the lens
A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.
- 3
Bin it
Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.
BYD Seal questions
Can I clean my BYD Seal's cameras with a pressure washer?
No, the manual advises against this. Direct spraying with a high-pressure washer can damage the cameras, a wipe is a safer choice.
Which camera on the BYD Seal gets dirty fastest?
The rear camera at the licence plate. It sits low and catches a lot of road spray and grime.
Does emergency braking still work if the camera is dirty?
The manual states camera functions are limited when the lens is blocked by ice, water, frost or mud. A wipe restores a clear view for the camera.
