How to clean the cameras on your BYD Dolphin

The BYD Dolphin has a windscreen camera for driver assistance, a camera above the rear licence plate and, depending on trim, cameras around the car for the 360° view. Dirt on any of these cameras directly affects what you see on screen and what the system detects.

Where are the cameras on the BYD Dolphin?

  1. Windscreen, outside in front of the camera
  2. Grille or front bumper
  3. Under the door mirrors
  4. Reversing camera

Camera equipment varies by trim and model year. Check your owner's manual.

Where dirt builds up

The camera above the rear licence plate collects a lot of dirt, especially in rain and winter road salt. The Dolphin has no built-in cleaning, so you clean the cameras yourself.

If the windscreen camera is dirty, a message appears and forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking switch off until you clean it. Lane assist functions also depend on a clean camera.

How to clean the cameras on your Dolphin

  1. 1

    Tear open

Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.

  2. 2

    Wipe the lens

A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.

  3. 3

    Bin it

Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.

BYD Dolphin questions

Why does my BYD Dolphin show a camera warning?

If the windscreen camera is dirty, the system switches off collision warning and emergency braking. Clean the camera and the message usually clears.

Does the BYD Dolphin have a 360° camera system?

Depending on trim, the Dolphin has cameras around the car for the Panoramic View System. Check your trim level to know which cameras are fitted.

Will a wipe remove haze on the inside of the windscreen?

The issue described is due to condensation inside of the lens rather than dust/dirt. Cleaning the actual camera lens will not resolve this problem.
