How to clean the cameras on your BYD Seal U

The BYD Seal U has a windscreen camera and a rear camera above the licence plate, feeding the Panoramic View System. Whether it also has cameras in the front grille and side mirrors depends on the trim. Dirty lenses blur the image and can switch off driver assist functions.

Where are the cameras on the BYD Seal U?

  1. Windscreen, outside in front of the camera
  2. Grille or front bumper
  3. Under the door mirrors
  4. Reversing camera

Camera equipment varies by trim and model year. Check your owner's manual.

Where dirt builds up

The rear camera above the licence plate picks up the most dirt, from road spray and mud. There is no built-in cleaning for these cameras. The manual actually warns against washing them directly with a high-pressure cleaner.

AEB, collision warning and lane keeping use the windscreen camera together with the radar. If that camera is dirty or blocked, the system switches itself off and shows a message on the dashboard.

How to clean the cameras on your Seal U

  1. 1

    Tear open

Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.

  2. 2

    Wipe the lens

A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.

  3. 3

    Bin it

Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.

BYD Seal U questions

Does every Seal U have a full 360° camera system?

That depends on the trim. The windscreen camera and rear camera are standard, but the front and mirror cameras for the full Panoramic View System are not guaranteed on every version.

Can I spray the Seal U cameras with a high-pressure cleaner?

No, the manual specifically warns against this. Use a soft, lint-free wipe on the lens instead.

Why does AEB sometimes switch off on my Seal U?

AEB and lane keeping rely on the windscreen camera together with the radar. If that camera gets dirty or covered, for example by rain or road grime, the system switches off and shows a message on the dashboard.
