How to clean the cameras on your Volvo XC60
Your Volvo XC60 has a camera/radar unit behind the windscreen for City Safety and Pilot Assist, and depending on trim, a rear parking camera plus cameras in the grille and door mirrors for 360 degree view. Dirt on these lenses directly affects how well these systems work.
Where are the cameras on the Volvo XC60?
- Windscreen, outside in front of the camera
- Grille or front bumper
- Under the door mirrors
- Reversing camera
Camera equipment varies by trim and model year. Check your owner's manual.
Where dirt builds up
The rear camera sits above the licence plate and picks up a lot of road grime, especially in winter from spray and salt. Volvo does not fit a factory washer for it, only a dealer accessory that sprays along with the rear screen washer.
A dirty camera/radar behind the windscreen can trigger a message that the sensor is blocked. City Safety and Pilot Assist then work with reduced support until you clean it. On the 360 cameras, dirt makes the parking view blurry or incomplete.
How to clean the cameras on your XC60
- 1
Tear open
Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.
- 2
Wipe the lens
A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.
- 3
Bin it
Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.
Volvo XC60 questions
Does my Volvo XC60 have a washer for the rear camera?
Not as standard. Volvo sells an accessory that sprays along with the rear screen washer, but many cars don't have it fitted.
Why does my XC60 show a message that the sensor is blocked?
This happens when the camera/radar behind the windscreen is dirty. City Safety and Pilot Assist then work with reduced support until you clean it.
Will a wipe also fix fogging on the inside of the windscreen?
No, an exterior wipe does not fix fogging on the inside of the windscreen or software faults.
