How to clean the cameras on your Tesla Model X
Your Tesla Model X runs on Tesla Vision, so cameras do the job sensors used to. There are cameras in the windscreen, the front bumper (depending on trim), both front fenders, both b-pillars and above the rear licence plate. A dirty lens can limit assisted driving features.
Where are the cameras on the Tesla Model X?
- Windscreen, outside in front of the camera
- Grille or front bumper
- Side cameras in the front fenders
- B-pillars, left and right
- Reversing camera

Where dirt builds up
The camera above the rear licence plate picks up the most dirt, same as on other Teslas. Only the front bumper camera on 2025-update cars has a washer, the rest have no built-in cleaning.
Model X utilizes cameras exclusively because Tesla discontinued the use of ultrasonic sensors. HW4 cars will receive assistance via a front mounted radar unit. If you block one of the cameras, then the functionality of your assisted driving will be limited.
How to clean the cameras on your Model X

Tear open
Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.

Wipe the lens
A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.

Bin it
Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.

Does my Model X have a camera in the front bumper?
Dependent on your vehicle's configuration. Vehicles produced after 2025 updates possess a front bumper camera with a wash function, while prior configurations simply had either an empty or a dummy slot.
Can a wipe fix haze on the inside of the windscreen?
No, that is condensation or dirt on the inside of the glass. CamWipes only cleans the outside of the cameras.
Why does a clean rear camera matter on the Model X?
The camera above the licence plate sits in the same exposed spot as on other Teslas and picks up dirt fast from rain and road spray. Model X uses cameras instead of ultrasonic sensors, so a dirty lens can limit assisted driving.
