How to clean the cameras on your Renault 5 E-Tech
The Renault 5 E-Tech (from 2024) has a camera behind the windscreen for driver assist and, depending on trim, a rear camera. Rain or spray on the lens makes these functions work less well. Clean lenses keep the image sharp.
Where are the cameras on the Renault 5 E-Tech?
- Windscreen, outside in front of the camera
- Reversing camera
Camera equipment varies by trim and model year. Check your owner's manual.
Where dirt builds up
On the Renault owner forum, drivers report the rear camera image gets poor as soon as it is wet. Dirt and water droplets on the rear lens stick easily, especially in rain or on wet roads.
Lane keep assist and traffic sign recognition use the camera behind the windscreen. On the iconic cinq, the car parks itself with easy park assist, which also needs a clean rear camera.
How to clean the cameras on your 5 E-Tech
- 1
Tear open
Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.
- 2
Wipe the lens
A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.
- 3
Bin it
Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.
Renault 5 E-Tech questions
Does every Renault 5 E-Tech have a rear camera?
No, it is standard from the techno trim up. The base evolution trim does not have it.
Why is my rear camera image poor in the rain?
Owners report the image gets poor as soon as the camera is wet. A wipe can clean the lens, but it will not fix a frozen image or a software fault.
Can CamWipes also clean the windscreen camera?
A wet wipe works fine for cleaning the outside of that lens. However, a wet wipe cannot clear fog from the inside of your windshield.
