How to clean the cameras on your Polestar Polestar 4

The Polestar 4 has no rear window. Rear visibility runs through a camera on the tailgate, backed by a front camera and mirror-mounted cameras for the 360° view. Dirt on any of these lenses directly affects your view and the system's image quality.

Where are the cameras on the Polestar Polestar 4?

  1. Windscreen, outside in front of the camera
  2. Grille or front bumper
  3. Under the door mirrors
  4. Camera for the digital rear-view mirror

Camera equipment varies by trim and model year. Check your owner's manual.

Where dirt builds up

The tailgate camera housing is shaped to guide airflow away from the lens, keeping water and grime off, and the lens reportedly has a water-repellent coating. Heavy snow can still cover the camera bump. Polestar says it wipes off with a finger, but a wipe cleans it more thoroughly without scratching.

The digital rear-view mirror depends entirely on the tailgate camera. If it's dirty or snow-covered, you lose rear visibility right away. The owner's manual advises keeping this camera clean and free of obstructions.

How to clean the cameras on your Polestar 4

  1. 1

    Tear open

Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.

  2. 2

    Wipe the lens

A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.

  3. 3

    Bin it

Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.

Polestar Polestar 4 questions

Does the Polestar 4 have a normal rear-view mirror?

No, there's no rear window. You see a digital image fed by the camera on the tailgate.

What if snow covers the tailgate camera?

Polestar says it wipes off with a finger, but a wipe cleans the lens more thoroughly and without streaks.

Will cleaning fix a blurry image or a system fault?

A wipe only cleans the outside of the lens. It won't fix haze on the inside of the glass or a software fault.
