How to clean the cameras on your Mercedes-Benz GLC
Your Mercedes-Benz GLC uses several cameras for parking and driver assistance: a camera behind the windscreen, a reversing camera and, depending on equipment, a 360° camera with cameras in both door mirrors. Dirt on any of these lenses causes smears or a blurred image, especially in rain or on dirty roads.
Where are the cameras on the Mercedes-Benz GLC?
- Windscreen, outside in front of the camera
- Grille or front bumper
- Under the door mirrors
- Reversing camera
Camera equipment varies by trim and model year. Check your owner's manual.
Where dirt builds up
The GLC's reversing camera sits behind a motorised flap that opens when you use the camera. This protects the lens from road spray and winter salt, but once the flap is open, dirt can still land on the glass, particularly in winter.
Parking assist and, if fitted, the 360° surround view only work well with clean lenses at the mirrors, front and rear. The reversing camera also self-calibrates while driving, which opens the flap. A wipe cleans the lens but cannot fix software issues.
How to clean the cameras on your GLC
- 1
Tear open
Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.
- 2
Wipe the lens
A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.
- 3
Bin it
Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.
Mercedes-Benz GLC questions
Why does my GLC's rear camera flap open and close so often?
A Mercedes technical bulletin from April 2026 notes frequent flap actuations and noise on the X254 GLC, caused by a calibration process. A software update from Mercedes reduces this, a wipe cannot fix it.
Does every GLC have a 360° camera?
It depends on the trim. The 360° camera is part of the parking package and isn't standard on every version.
Can I clean the reversing camera lens while the flap is closed?
No, the lens sits behind the flap and is only accessible once it opens when the camera is in use. Clean it as soon as the flap is open, for example right after parking.
