How to clean the cameras on your BMW iX1
Your BMW iX1 has a camera behind the windscreen for Active Guard and a rear view camera on the tailgate. Depending on trim, it may also have a front camera and mirror cameras for Surround View. Dirt on any lens blurs the image and can affect how assist systems respond.
Where are the cameras on the BMW iX1?

Where dirt builds up
Road spray, mud and winter salt tend to build up on the tailgate around the rear camera, and on the mirrors if your iX1 has Surround View. Using the rear window washer sprays fluid over the rear camera lens, but that only clears loose dirt, not caked-on grime.
Active Guard, including lane departure warning, relies on the windscreen camera. Parking Assistant Plus and Surround View only work properly when the rear, front and mirror cameras all have a clear view. A dirty lens shows up as a blurry or distorted image on screen.
How to clean the cameras on your iX1

Tear open
Each wet wipe is separately packaged to remain damp for months when left in a vehicle.

Wipe the lens
A wet wipe can be used to remove dirt, road grime (film) and finger prints. Use the minimum amount of pressure to clean your lenses.

Bin it
Do NOT use an individual wipe twice. After you have cleaned one surface, you will need to dispose of the wet wipe as the dirt has been transferred into the wipe. If you reuse a wet wipe, it may scratch the coating on your lens.

Does my iX1 have a rear view camera as standard?
Yes, it is part of the standard Parking Assistant. The exact spot on the tailgate can vary by spec.
Does the rear window washer fully clean the camera?
It sprays fluid over the rear camera lens, which helps with loose dirt. It won't shift dried salt or mud stuck to the lens.
Does every iX1 have cameras in the mirrors?
No, those only come with the optional Innovation Pack for Surround View. Check your trim level if you're unsure.
